In the Event of Things going 'sideways and into the ditch', the Authorities will use liberal amounts of Riot Agents to break up & disperse crowds. I've long advocated that having a Gas Mask for protection against those two most likely threats actually IS prudent. I don't expect to need protection against against Blister (Mustard Gas) or Nerve Agents (VX, Sarain) (You need full on MOPP4 suit up for that) but for protection against Riot Agents (Police) or Biological Agents (Plague). The most likely used for a Gas Mask here in the US of A are for 'P.&P.'.
